Ciscentrism SUCKS!

Fighting ciscentrism, one post at a time.

38 notes

Dear cis people who feel compelled to give me unsolicited advice about transition,

kiriamaya:

Thanks, but no thanks.

I know you’re eager to show off how hip and cool and informed you are about trans people, but I promise you that you’re not as informed about me as I am about myself.

Furthermore, I know what I’m doing. I really do. I know about the laws, the SOC, the risks of hormones, the costs of hair removal and surgery, the local resources that are available, and the possible issues people might have pronouncing “Alyssa”. I don’t need you to explain these things to me, especially since these explanations of yours are usually… well, let’s just say misinformed.

If you want to support me, start by addressing and gendering me properly. Once you’ve got that down, work past your cissexism and learn to respect trans people’s expertise in their own lives. Then we can start talking about the brilliant advice you had — which, you will more than likely realize, was actually rather ignorant.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Kiri
