I used to (silently) think that triggers for common words were a little useless. After all, you can’t avoid those terms in meatspace! What’s the point of avoiding them here when as soon as you walk out your door, someone is going to unthinkingly use a word that harms you? But then I realized that tumblr is not IRL and people have every right to try to form a safe space here, which includes not being exposed to triggering language. No, you can’t do that everywhere you go, but that just makes it even more important to be able to extend your safe spaces into cyberspace.
